ELBERT VAN STRIEN
writer/director/producer
Elbert van Strien graduated from the Dutch Film Academy as a writer-director.
His graduation film won Best Dutch Short and was nominated for the Student
Academy Award.
Since then he wrote and directed feature films, multi award winning shorts,
TV-drama and commercials for top Dutch agencies. Amongst them are: FORBIDDEN
EYES (Silver Méliès best short FFF Sweden, Kodak Award BIFFF Brussels,
broadcasted by ARTE), THE HIDDEN
FACE (Hans Christian Andersen Award Odense Denmark, Silver Méliès best
short Espoo Finland), and Kafkaesque thriller/photo-film STILL
WORLD (nomination Best Dutch Short, shown at New Directors/New Films at
the Museum of Modern Art in New York).
His feature film psychological thriller TWO
EYES STARING (2010) was international premiered at the Edinburgh Film
Festival and won the Grand Prix Best Film and Best Screenplay at Fantasporto
2011. US remake rights have been picked up by Charlize Theron and Lionsgate.
For Stetz Film/VPRO Elbert directed the awarded black comedy OOM
HENK (UNCLE HANK) in 2011.
His English language debut psychological thriller MARIONETTE,
starring Thekla Reuten, Peter Mullan and Bill Paterson, will be released in
2020.
Under the banner of Accento Films Elbert is currently financing futuristic
thriller OUT OF MIND and political
paranoia thriller MINDHACK, both co-written by
Ben Hopkins.
Elbert has a few projects in development, incl. THE
PSYCHONAUT, an absurdistic comedy in the style of Charlie Kaufman; thriller/film
noir GOODBYE MR LEBEDEV; and NOIR, a high
end political thriller/noir TV-series set in the 30'ies for BosBros / Eyeworks
(BE).
